A Whales and Tails cozy mystery series is set on Madrona Island, a fictional island within the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. As a fourth generation islander Caitlin Hart is struggling to make her way as the economy and culture of the island evolves toward a tourism based industry. Cait lives in a cabin on her aunt's oceanfront estate where she helps her aunt run Harthaven Cat Sanctuary. When she isn't working with the cats, she helps best friend Tara, operate the coffee bar/bookstore/cat lounge they own, named Coffee Cat Books.

The Whales and Tails series, set on Madrona Island, gets better and better with each book. There was no way I could have predicted how this book was end, and that’s how I like it. Cait and Cody are falling in love in this book, and it makes me smile to watch how these old friends have come to this point in their lives. I’m hoping for a wedding in the next book, fingers crossed!In this series there is a cat (different in each book) that comes to lead Cait to clues about a murder. The cat stays with her until the murder is solved, then leaves. The cat this time is named Ichabod. There are actually several murders and Ichabod leads Cait to each one. Ichabod is my favorite cat in this series so far; he seems wiser and better able to communicate than the cats in previous books. Cait and her friends and family (brother Danny and sister Siobhan) work together with clues from the murders trying to figure out who the murderer is. Is there a serial killer on the island? It seems that the murderer knows a lot about each victim including their comings and goings, leading to the disconcerting assumption that the perpetrator must be someone who lives among them.
I was very happy that Siobhan, Cait’s older sister, who has lived off the island in Seattle for several years has come to visit. It turns out that she’s lost her job due to downsizing at her company so she’s back home. Siobhan’s job in Seattle was challenging and she loved the city life. Will the slower pace of living on Madrona Island be enough for her?
Aunt Maggie was out of the picture, supposedly at a yoga retreat, until nearly the end of the book. She refuses to reveal where she was and what she was doing, but I’m hoping it will come to light in the next book.
At the end there is a sweet surprise about where Ichabod goes next, and I am smiling all over myself.

LOVED this new addition, suspects galore and some surprises along the way....I kept reading, no breaks, till I was done! Great series for those of us who enjoy cozy mysteries and the delightful characters that Kathi develops for the reader.The island of this setting is one you not only would love for a visit but would feel right at home to stay, permanently.
As the group of friends try to assist in solving not only one, two, but three murders, the reader feels as if she is there with the group.
It also lays the groundwork for the next edition in the series and has you wanting it to quickly appear.
The relationships between friends and family and neighbors on this island is truly realistic and keeps you wanting more.
Terrific job, Kathi, ready for the next one!
Wow, Kathi has done it again. I absolutely loved this book. I don't know how she does it but I feel like every book in this series just keeps me on the edge of my seat. These adventures are so much fun to read and the characters just keep growing and evolving on Mandrona Island.
This adventure starts in the hollow. The hollow is a haunted place legend has it where many strange things have happened. Not only is a place full of feral cats but now it is the site of a murder. I bet you can guess who is drawn there, yep, Cait. She is told by Tansy that she is to meet her messenger at the hollow. This is where she meets "Ichabod"a black cat with glowing green eyes. This is the beginning of a great adventure. Cait needs to find out if there is one killer or multiple killers on the island. Who would have thought that their little island would be the backdrop for murder.
With the help of Cody, Cait's boyfriend, and her friends and family and an unexpected visit from her big sister Siobhan they begin to unravel secrets on the island that will lead to a killer. But, who will be the next victim? Will the group find enough clues before one of them becomes number two?
I have loved all of these characters throughout this series. Things have been changing and a lot of twists and turns have occurred on the island. There are a lot of surprises in this book that you will love. I know I did and can't wait for the next installment in the Whales and Tales mysteries.
If you are looking for a great mystery, romance, and unexpected endings you will love this book as well as all of Kathi Daley books.

On Madrona Island there is an area where people say that is haunted. Cait once again stumbles across another body near her aunt’s cat sanctuary. This time it is the mayor and the location seems off since he did not like cats. Was it suicide or was he murder?
But when another council body is found and a black poker chip is found on and around the bodies, could this be a serial killer in the making? While researching both victims they shared money problems and a prospect of selling timber from Tabby Hollow.
Meantime Cait’s oldest sister shows up on the island jobless and apartment less. Her older sister reconnects with Cait and her former fiancé Finn as well.
During the investigation Cody and Cait’s relationship moves up a notch as they confess their love for each other. But once again she will find herself in danger; will he be able to rescue her in time? Will her older sister find a way back to her ex fiancé? Who knows what the future will bring the Hart sisters?
